AUWCL Offers Online Courses Aimed at New Graduates and Mid-Career Professionals

Participants from 25 countries completed programs in the past year

WASHINGTON, DC,  June 24, 2015 – The Office of Online Education at American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) offers online programs geared towards new graduates and mid-career professionals. With select courses available to students worldwide, online learners can participate in certificate and for-credit programs at Washington College of Law in a variety of topics, all while maintaining their day-to-day responsibilities. This year, AUWCL welcomed online participants from across the U.S. and around the world, including Honduras, Italy, Oman, Spain, Russia, and Turkey, among others.  

"The future looks very bright as we continue to build these programs, meeting the needs of legal professionals from around the world,” said Glenn Greenberg, director of Online Education at AUWCL. “This year alone, we welcomed participants from over 25 countries. That speaks volumes about the quality of our faculty and programs, as well as the state-of-the-art learning technology we use."

The Office of Online Education’s programs are delivered using Brightspace by Desire2Learn, a next generation online learning platform that engages and inspires learners. Participants work on their own schedule and can meet with classmates and professors at designated times in virtual sessions for lively discussions and coursework.

American University Washington College of Law offers the following online learning programs:

Online Certificate in International Communication Regulation and Policy (Spring 2015)
Through self-paced coursework and online lectures by world-renowned professionals in the field, the course explores current and emerging issues in communications policy and regulation, including licensing, competition, and universal access and service and internet issues. The inaugural course held in the spring had over 50 participants.

Online Certificate Program on International Commercial Arbitration (Fall 2015)
With a focus on both theory and practice, this program explores a range of topics providing in-depth knowledge and understanding of the key topics in the field of commercial arbitration and its relevance in business law.

Online Lawyer Re-Entry Program (Fall 2015)
Designed for lawyers looking to resume, transition in, or reinvent their professional lives, this program covers topics on: reclaiming professional identity; job search strategies and tools; legal research, writing, and technology; and valuable post-program one-on-one coaching. Over the last year, the program has served more than 45 participants.

LL.M. in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (Fall 2015, Spring 2016)
This unique hybrid program, with online and residential course components, is designed for practitioners and other human rights advocates who wish to pursue advanced studies in international human rights law and humanitarian law.

Online Legal Spanish Program (Spring 2016)
This program is for lawyers who speak Spanish but have difficulty using complex legal terms in their client interactions and legal work. Participants are introduced to legal concepts and provided with practical communication skills in Spanish.
