Supreme Court of the Republic of Paraguay to Send Judges to Participate in Human Rights Training at American University Washington College of Law

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 22, 2013 – American University Washington College of Law and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Paraguay celebrated today the establishment of a cooperative agreement between the Court and the law school’s Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.

The agreement was formalized in the Dean’s Suite on February 22, 2013 during a signing ceremony attended by Dr. Víctor Manuel Núñez Rodríguez, the President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Paraguay. This agreement will develop and promote the culture of human rights within Paraguay and Latin America.

To this end, the Supreme Court has agreed to send its members to AUWCL’s Program of Advanced Studies on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and to recognize this training as part of the Supreme Court’s program of study. Additionally, the agreement will promote further cooperation between the two institutions and create the opportunity to explore additional initiatives that bridge international divides.

The Academy is one of many human rights programs at American University Washington College of Law and it promotes practical approaches to human rights and humanitarian law as well as strengthens links between human rights organizations, practitioners, and educators worldwide.
