American University Washington College of Law Proudly Hosts Event for International Association of Judges (IAJ) Annual Meeting

Nearly 300 Judges Expected to Attend

Washington, D.C., Nov. 8, 2012 - American University Washington College of Law is honored to host the International Association of Judges (IAJ) for a dinner Nov. 12, 2012 as part of the IAJ's 55th Annual Meeting. Nearly 300 judges are expected to attend the dinner at the law school.

This year marks the first time the IAJ will convene in the United States for its annual meeting, Nov. 10-15, 2012 in Alexandria, Virginia.

"We look forward to partnering with IAJ for this event, particularly on the historic occasion of holding the annual meeting for the first time in the U.S.," said Claudio Grossman, dean, American University Washington College of Law. "We look forward to welcoming IAJ members into our community, and deeply value the opportunity to continue our joint effort in promoting judicial independence and the rule of law worldwide."

The 2012 annual meeting will focus on intellectual property rights, and will be co-hosted with the Federal Judges Association (FJA), and United States Patent and Trademark Office's Global Intellectual Property Academy (GIPA).

IAJ is composed of 74 national associations from five continents. It was founded in Salzburg, Austria, in 1953 with the goals of safeguarding the independence of the judiciary and strengthening the rule of law around the world.

The IAJ's mission to protect an independent judiciary in order to promote human rights and preserve freedom is a mission wholeheartedly supported by the American University Washington College of Law community. The law school is a hub of international activity, hosting numerous in-depth international conferences and events each year, whose purpose is to promote the rule of law while our faculty and students address some of the most important legal issues facing the world, through educational exchanges and other cooperative efforts.
