Human Rights Champion to Address Indonesian Migrant Workers' Rights at American University Washington College of Law Event

WASHINGTON D.C., October 27, 2011 - American University Washington College of Law welcomes Anis Hidayah, recipient of the 2011 Human Rights Watch Alison Des Forges Award, as the featured speaker for Abuse in the Shadows: Migrant Workers’ Rights and Redress in Indonesia on Thursday, Nov. 3 from noon – 1:20 p.m.

Ms. Hidayah will speak about her work monitoring abuse of Indonesian domestic workers in countries such as Kuwait, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, and advocating for their protection by calling for better labor laws, oversight of recruitment practices, and more effective immigration policies. She currently serves as the executive director of Migrant Care, a non-governmental organization based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The event is presented by the law school’s Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and the Women and the Law Program.
