2011 Annual Lecture on International Commercial Arbitration Welcomes Top-Ranking Arbitrator

WASHINGTON, DC, November 1, 2011 - Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler, ranked among the top ten arbitrators worldwide, will present the 2011 American University Washington College of Law Annual Lecture on International Commercial Arbitration on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011.
Professor Kaufmann-Kohler will speak about "Commercial Arbitration under the Scrutiny of Human Rights Courts and Investment Tribunals: Towards Defragmentation of International Dispute Settlement?"
Gabrielle Kaufmann-Kohler has handled over 160 international arbitrations mainly focused on commercial and investment disputes. She is currently a partner in Levy Kaufmann-Kohler, where she practices commercial, investment, and sports arbitration. As a professor at the University of Geneva, she has authored and edited many books and articles in the field of dispute settlement, and heads several research projects financed by the Swiss National Research. Kaufmann-Kohler is lauded for her expertise in sports disputes, and has chaired the Arbitral Tribunal at the Olympic Games, set up an ad hoc panel in 2002 for the FIFA World Cup, served as chair of the ordinary division of the Court of Arbitration for Sports, and has contributed to the drafting of the CAS Code and the Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games.
