Program on International and Comparative Environmental Law Launches Podcast on Carbon Issues

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, DC, Sept. 17, 2010 – American University Washington College of Law's Program on International and Comparative Environmental Law announces the premiere of "Hot Air: Carbon Policies, Politics & Markets," a one-hour podcast featuring a roundtable discussion on carbon issues that will debut on Friday, Sept. 17.  The show is co-sponsored with the American Bar Association’s Committee on Carbon Trading and Energy Finance.

“Currently, there is not a media outlet that provides public discussion and insight strictly on carbon and related global warming issues.  This show seeks to fill that gap with leading experts in the field,” said William Snape, fellow in environmental law and producer of the podcast. “Because the scientific reality of climate change is now publicly accepted, how our society responds becomes the central question that this show will help explain.”

"Hot Air" will feature a directed roundtable discussion among a panel of carbon market experts. Topics will vary by show.  Christopher B. Berendt, vice president for environmental markets, policy and strategy with Pace Global, is the show’s host and creator, and joins Snape for each episode.

The debut episode of “Hot Air” will ask the following questions:

  •  What is the status of climate, energy, and oil spill response legislation in the Senate this fall?
  •  Why did the Kerry-Lieberman-Graham global warming bill collapse earlier this year in the Senate?
  •  What does domestic U.S. action mean for the U.N. climate change meeting in Cancun later this year?

Berendt and Snape, who is also senior counsel with the Center for Biological Diversity, will be joined by panelists Kevin Book, managing director of research at Clearview Energer Partners, LLC, Robin Bravender, a reporter at Environment and Energy Publishing, Tony S. Short, director of federal government affairs at Duke Energy Company, and Milo Sjardin, head of North American analysis at Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

After its Sept. 17 premiere, "Hot Air" will continue on Oct. 6 and Nov. 19.  The podcast will be available on iTunes and here -
