National Institute of Military Justice Welcomes 2010 Military Reporters and Editors Conference

Bob Woodward to deliver keynote address on Nov. 5

WASHINGTON, DC, November 2, 2010 – American University Washington College of Law is proud to announce the 2010 Military Reporters & Editors Conference on Nov. 4-5.  This year’s event is titled “Fighting on All Fronts, Covering Combat and Its Aftermath,” and is co-sponsored by the National Institute of Military Justice and the Medill National Security Journalism Initiative. 

The law school will be hosting the events of Nov. 5th, which include a keynote address by famed Washington D.C. journalist Bob Woodward.  Woodward will be discussing his new book “Obama’s Wars”, a portrait of President Obama in his role as commander-in-chief in recent global conflicts. 

Panels titled “Military Justice: From Gitmo to Hood”, “When They Come Home: The issues facing Veterans”, “Cyberwarfare: Beyond the Droids?”, and “The Way Forward: The Drawdown of Iraq and the Continuation of Afghanistan” will round out the day’s programming.

The program will kick off on Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Medill Washington Bureau with a training session in computer-assisted reporting for military reporters, followed by an opening reception with Michael Hastings, the journalist who penned the recent profile on Gen. (ret.) Stanley McChrystal for Rolling Stone magazine. 

Programming on Friday, Nov. 5 will take place entirely at American University Washington College of Law.
