Lambda Law Society Hosts Second Annual Symposium on LGBTQ Poverty and Barriers to Access

WASHINGTON, DC, March 26, 2010 – American University Washington College of Law will host the “The Second Annual Lambda Law Society Symposium: LGBTQ Poverty and Barriers to Access,” on Tuesday, March 30 from 2 – 4:25 p.m.
Poverty is widespread among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities. This symposium will try to answer questions like:
- How do barriers to the basic needs of employment, health care, and housing affect LGBTQ survival?
- How do these access barriers create and exacerbate LGBTQ poverty?
- What roles do racism, ageism, homophobia, and disability phobia play?
- Where do we go from here?
The program includes panel discussions with legal experts and officials from high level non-profit organizations, and is presented by the Lambda Law Society, The Modern American, the Poverty Law Society, the Women and the Law Program, and the Women’s Law Association.
