American University Hosts Luxembourg Forum Featuring Keynote Addresses from U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer and Court of Justice of the European Union President Koen Lenaerts

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2017 – On April 21, American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) will host the Academic Conference of the 2017 Luxembourg Forum, taking place in Washington April 18-21. The Luxembourg Forum is a legal exchange between the U.S. Supreme Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) that provides high-level transatlantic judicial consultations and discussion with principal goals of facilitating dialogue and enhancing mutual understanding between the U.S. and EU judicial systems.   

The Keynote Conversation “Judges as Diplomats in Advancing the Rule of Law,” which closes the conference, is scheduled for Friday, April 21, at 2:30 p.m. in Grossman Hall of the AUWCL Tenley Campus. The program is open to the public and presented by the deans and faculty of American University’s School of International Service, School of Public Affairs, and Washington College of Law.

The featured speakers are Stephen Breyer, Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court and Koen Lenaerts, President, Court of Justice of the European Union. Welcoming remarks will be made by Anthony E. Varona, Vice Dean and Professor of Law at Washington College of Law. Barbara Romzek, Dean of the AU School of Public Affairs, will introduce the topic. The program will be moderated by Professor Bill Davies of the School of Public Affairs and Professor Fernanda G. Nicola, international and comparative law professor at Washington College of Law.
