WASHINGTON, D.C., April 16 - American University Washington College of Law is proud to announce that The Peggy Browning Fund has awarded 10-week summer fellowships to seven of the law school's students.

The students will spend their fellowships working at a number of labor unions and a union-side labor law firm. The application process is highly competitive, and the awards were based on their outstanding qualifications. This is the highest number of Peggy Browning Fellowships ever awarded to students of a particular law school in a single year.

The students are Julie Cantor and Marcella Coyne, who will spend the fellowship at Laborers' International Union of North America in Washington, DC; Kyle deCant, who will be at Communications Workers of America in Washington, DC; Rachel Kaplan and Carter Meader, who will be at AFSCME in Washington, DC; Pascal Moleus, who will be at American Federation of Government Employees in Washington, DC; and Ezinwanyi Ukegbu, who will be at Kennedy, Jennik & Murray, P.C. in New York, NY.

In 2012 The Peggy Browning Fund will support nearly 70 public interest labor law fellowships nationwide. With more than 500 applicants from 125 participating law schools, securing a Peggy Browning Fellowship is not an easy task. Peggy Browning Fellows are distinguished students who have not only excelled in law school but who have also demonstrated their commitment to workers’ rights through their previous educational, work, volunteer and personal experiences. These seven American University law students are no exception.

The Peggy Browning Fund is a not for-profit organization established in memory of Margaret A. Browning, a prominent union-side attorney who was a Member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) from 1994 until 1997. Peggy Browning Fellowships provide law students with unique, diverse and challenging work experiences fighting for social and economic justice. These experiences encourage and inspire students to pursue careers in public interest labor law.
