Innovative Program on Judicial Reform in Latin America and the U.S. Launches July 8-21

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 3, 2012 - American University Washington College of Law's new Program on Judicial Reform in Latin America and the United States is designed to give participants an overview of the reform processes of judicial systems taking place in Latin American countries, with a special emphasis on criminal justice.

Judges and legal practitioners from around the world will participate in the unique summer program, held July 8-21 in Washington, D.C., and organized jointly by American University Washington College of Law, The Justice Studies Center of the Americas, and Diego Portales University Faculty of Law.

The dynamic curriculum covers subject areas such as: General Vision of the Reform of Criminal Justice in Latin America, Criminal Prosecution Model in Latin America, Oral Arguments in Latin America, Civil Reforms in the Americas and Prospective Changes, Selected Topics of the U.S. Criminal Justice System, and Selected Topics of the U.S. Civil Justice System.

Students will be exposed to the challenges in working within various functions of new judicial systems, and will grasp the necessary skills required to excel in these roles. Participants will also gain a greater understanding of the U.S. judicial system which they may apply to their own work in Latin American systems.
