Panel to Debate Merits of Citizens United Supreme Court Ruling

WASHINGTON, DC, February 26, 2010 – American University Washington College of Law  will host a panel discussion titled “Citizens United: The Downfall of Democracy or Restoration of Free Speech,” on Monday, March 1 from noon – 1:20 p.m.  The event is co-sponsored by the Federalist Society, the Integrated Curriculum Program, and the Program on Law & Government. 

Panelists will be discussing the recent Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court and the future of campaign finance regulation.   Critics have said the ruling leaves the door open for corporate interests to exert influence over the political process. Supporters see it as an important step in restoring a "free marketplace" for speech about elections.
