Legal Approach to Global Water Sustainability on World Water Day

WASHINGTON, DC, March 19, 2010 – American University Washington College of Law will host a conference titled “World Water Day: Legal Approaches to Global Water Sustainability.” The conference is presented by the Journal on Sustainable Development Law & Policy.
March 22 is United Nations World Water Day, and this conference includes various panel discussions outlining current challenges to the sustainability of drinking water. Such challenges include distribution of water sources, the diplomacy involved in resolving issues of scarcity, and access to disadvantaged populations such as American Indians and the global south. Whether there should be a right to water is an issue of both legal and moral debate. Legal approaches to water access provide the background to understanding this growing global crisis.
The program features experts from nature and wildlife conservation groups, including the Sierra Club, World Wildlife Fund, American Rivers, and more.
