Vis Moot Court Team Earns Awards for Oral Advocacy, Places in Top 20

Congratulations to 3Ls Ashley Nickel, Naomi Ahsan, Semp Sooriakumar, and Tiffany Sommadossi on their success in the 13th Annual Willem C. Vis East Moot Court Competition in Hong Kong. Ahsan won the Neil T. Kaplan Award for Best Oral Advocate, while Sommadossi and Sooriakumar both received honorable mentions for the Best Oral Advocate Award.  Overall, the team won 16th Best Oral Team out of 115 teams from 31 countries. 

“American University Washington College of Law has had many successes at this competition, but this year's accomplishments were exceptional, says Katie Skaggs ‘11, a former Vis participant and the team’s coach. “The competition judges included some of the most preeminent international arbitration scholars and practitioners from around the world, and it was exciting to see our students held in such high regard by these accomplished attorneys.”

2Ls Emily Brait, Tiana Cherry, Rebecca Kumar, and 3L Trace Johnson are competing in the second part of the Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna March 19-24, 2016.
