Legal Rhetoric Program Hosts Legal Writing Workshop for Attorneys

From April 28-29, 2016, the Legal Rhetoric Program at American University Washington College of Law conducted a Legal Writing Workshop for practicing attorneys. The intensive program was developed for Virginia lawyers in direct response to observations and recommendations about lawyer communications skills made during the 2012 Virginia State Bar Conclave on the future of legal education in Virginia. The program was a collaborative effort of the Legal Rhetoric Program, Virginia State Bar Section on Education of Lawyers, Virginia CLE,  and the Virginia Bar Association’s Law Practice Management Division

The Honorable Elizabeth Lacy of the Virginia Supreme Court,  the Honorable Pamela Sargent of the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, Professor Jim Moliterno of Washington and Lee University School of Law, D. Alan Rudlin of Hunton and Williams, Topm Spahn of Mcguire Woods in McLean, Va., and the AUWCL Legal Rhetoric Program faculty were presenters.

The course included didactic presentation, exercises to reinforce ideas offered, discussion of writing approaches and experiences, document drafting, and editing, as well as mentoring by onsite faculty.
