Celebration of Scholarships and Awards Ceremony Honors Student Excellence

On April 18, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations hosted its Celebration of Scholarships and Awards Ceremony honoring student excellence. Through the generosity of AUWCL friends and alumni, the law school was able to award over $400,000 in named scholarships to exceptional students, in addition to the $17 million provided in financial aid.

Vice Dean Tony Varona addressed the students, faculty, and alumni at the awards reception noting that it was his honor to "celebrate the community's unwavering spirit of support for excellence in scholarship." He continued, "Our Scholarship and Awards Program is core to who we are as lawyers and what we value the most. That is why we continuously strive to strengthen the program. These scholarships shape the future of so many inspiring students who will become the next generation to support academic excellence in legal education."

Associate Dean of Students David Jaffe and chair of the Scholarship Committee emceed the event, announcing each scholarship and recipient. In his closing remarks, he offered campus tours to alumni and friends in attendance.

Varona also thanked the rest of the Scholarship Committee, including Director of Financial Aid Ryan Bien, Professor Jenny Roberts, Assistant Director of Business Operations Michael Scher, Interim Director of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations Jonathan Strausberg, Director of the Office of Diversity Services Sherry Weaver, and Professor Stephen Wermiel.
