Celebration for the Mock Trial, Moot Court, Alternative Dispute Resolution Teams, and Trial Advocacy Program

The Trial Advocacy Program held a Dean’s Reception Tuesday, April 25, to honor the successes of the Mock Trial, Moot Court, and Alternative Dispute Resolution competition teams as well as to celebrate the Trial Advocacy Program’s rise in ranking to number four in the nation.

Dean Camille Nelson joined by Professor David Aaronson, Director of the Trial Advocacy Program, congratulated students, staff, faculty, coaches and members of the administration who helped make the past year an unprecedented success.   

Team Successes

The Mock Trial Honor Society, Moot Court Honor Society, Society for Dispute Resolution, and Independent Competition Teams, consisting of approximately 148 students, competed in a total of 53 competitions during the 2016-2017 academic year with the following results:

  • 1 first place
  • 1 advocates choice award
  • 3 second places
  • 2 third places
  • 5 semi-finalists
  • 1 quarterfinalist
  •  2 8th place trophies (out of 40 teams)
  •  1 octofinalist

Individual Awards

Many competitions recognize individuals for their outstanding performances and teams for their outstanding written briefs. 

  • 6 students from AUWCL received individual awards, including:
    • 1 best brief award
    • 1 best advocate award
    • 2 best opening statement awards
    • 2 best oralist awards
