AUWCL Set to Increase Global Engagement through Growth of Online Education Programs

American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) is increasing engagement with the global legal community through the growth of its Online Education programs.  Since the Office of Online Education was created in 2013, AUWCL has offered online learning programs consisting of individual courses taught by the same renowned AUWCL faculty teaching on campus. Over three years, the total number of participants in online programs has grown to nearly 450. Set to launch later this year, Introducción al Derecho Migratorio de los Estados Unidos (Introduction to U.S. Immigration Law), will become the law school’s eighth online program.     

“We are excited to offer innovative online programs that truly reach a global audience.  To learn from each other and to network in this manner is quite remarkable,” says Glenn Greenberg, Director of Online Education at AUWCL.

The Office of Online Education currently offers the following online programs and courses:

CLE Accreditation can be applied for upon request. Program participants are encouraged to check with their state to ensure that distance learning is accredited as this varies greatly state by state. In addition to certificate programs, the law school continues to explore for-credit online courses for students.

AUWCL’s global community of online learners is made up of current JD and LL.M. students in Washington DC, as well as individuals from over forty countries, including Switzerland, Portugal, Australia, Nigeria, and Turkey, among others.

Online course offerings incorporate a range of learning activities that include academic readings, exercises, case studies, presentations, high quality lectures, discussions, and even blogging that enhance critical thinking. Participants can access course resources on the cloud and collaborate and communicate with their professors and peers using integrated messaging and a live virtual classroom.
