AUWCL students were celebrated by faculty, staff, friends, family and generous donors at the annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner held at AUWCL. Through the generosity of AUWCL alumni and friends, this year $350,000 in named scholarships were awarded to exceptional students, in addition to the $12 million provided in financial aid.

“These scholarships and awards – made possible through generous gifts from alumni and friends – represent our profound and abiding belief in our students and the 100-year tradition of philanthropy at AUWCL,” Dean Claudio Grossman said in his remarks.

3L Alexandra Arango was the Elizabeth F. Reed and Ernest E. Salisbury Endowed Scholarship awardee and served as the student speaker during the awards dinner.

“Over the course of three years, I am beholden to the generous donors of four scholarships," said Arango. "These scholarships have given me a stronger chance to pursue the work that inspires me. I have been able to intern at a regional tribunal, do meaningful research for the Committee against Torture, investigate discrete issues on war crimes, and work on cases that may one day bring justice to victims.”

Arango said she hopes that she may be able to give back to those who come after her.

“The education and the academic experience has been invaluable," she said. "I hope that years down the line we can give back, so that our so that our school can continue to support and celebrate students through scholarships."
