American University Washington College of Law Welcomes New Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Registrar

Amy TennyAmy Tenney, former associate director of the Program on Law & Government and adjunct professor of law at American University Washington College of Law, has been named the law school’s new assistant dean for academic services and registrar, effective Sept. 1, 2016. Tenney's responsibilities will include helping to set and refine the law school's curriculum, leading the Office of the Registrar, and working to provide students an unparalleled academic experience.

Tenney has been at the law school since 2009, working closely with students to provide personalized academic and professional counseling, and creating an effective structure for the LLM in Law and Government and SJD academic programs. As an accomplished adjunct professor at the law school, Tenney designed and taught a number of highly regarded courses, including White Collar Crime and the doctoral foundations seminar for SJD candidates.

“We are thrilled to announce Amy Tenney as the law school’s next Assistant Dean of Academic Services and Registrar,” said Dean Camille Nelson. “During her tenure with the Program on Law and Government, Dean Tenney has fostered an environment focused on the success and satisfaction of her students. I am certain her commitment to excellence, her deep understanding of the law school curriculum and how it fits into an evolving legal marketplace, and her unwavering focus on student satisfaction will allow her to thrive in this critical administrative role.”

Before joining WCL, Tenney was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Jenner & Block LLP, a law clerk to two federal judges, and chief aide to the then-president of the American Civil Liberties Union, Nadine Strossen.  She received her Juris Doctor magna cum laude from New York Law School, where she was a Snow Scholar and the supervising editor of the New York Law School Law Review, and a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland.

“I am delighted to work on behalf of students in this important capacity,” Tenney said.   “I am eager to maintain open lines of communication with all members of the WCL community to achieve our commitment to student satisfaction.”

Tenney will succeed Dean Rebecca Davis who is retiring from the law school at the end of this month.

“Dean Davis’ many years of leadership and dedication have been transformative, and her significant contributions to American University Washington College of Law are too numerous to recount,” said Nelson. “I am forever grateful for her willingness to assist us with this transition.”
