Panel on Sovereign Debt Restructuring Features Ambassador of Argentina Cecilia Nahón

          Nicola, Hagan, Bhattacharya, and Nahón

Ambassador of Argentina Cecilia Nahón joined Sean Hagan, general counsel for the International Monetary Fund, and Amar Bhattacharya, senior fellow at the Global Economy and Development Program at Brookings Institution, and Professor Fernanda Nicola for a conversation on "Sovereign Debt Restructuring: Global Implications and Systemic Solutions."

"...This is not only an economic problem, this is not only a financial problem, this is not only an issue that has to do with financial markets...but it is also an issue that has do with the possibilities of countries to grow, with the possibilities of countries to develop, with the possibilities of countries to serve their debts, but also to continue to have a growth enhancing process of development," said Ambassador Nahón.

"Sean Hagan clarified with crystalline simplicity the new direction that the IMF is heading toward in their attempt to look beyond contractual solutions for sovereign debt restructuring, especially in light of dramatic situations like the case of Argentina as highlighted by Ambassador Cecilia Nahón," said Professor Fernanda Nicola, director of the Program on International Organizations, Law and Diplomacy.
