Alternative Spring Break 2015 Fresno Helps Unaccompanied Minors in CaliforniaAlternative Spring Break Students

Twice a year AUWCL students work in different parts of the United States doing outreach and assisting low-income populations through alternative break programs. This spring, six students spent their break performing pro bono legal services through a non-profit organization called California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation (CRLAF).

The students included: Jeanna Lee (3L); Nirali Shah (3L); Tyler Bodi (3L); Emmanuel Catalan (2L); Whitley Granberry (2L); Jacqueline Youm (2L).

While working with CRLAF, students performed Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) renewals and client intakes. The students learned about the California state court procedures and immigration law and created sample Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) application packets that consisted of declarations, country condition reports, and Memorandum of Points and Authorities. The packets, created by the students, will be distributed to licensed attorneys who agree to participate in a new pro bono program that matches attorneys to SIJS qualified minors. Learn more about CRLAF.
